Kids will have have fun learning their Fry 9th (Ninth) 100 Sight Words by playing the classic game Uno, with a twist.

To save color ink, we substituted shapes for the colors traditionally used in an Uno deck, giving your students practice recognizing shapes and sight words in the same game. Each time a player plays a card, they must read the sight word on the card out loud.

Deck:

108 Uno cards covering all Fry 9th (Ninth) 100 Sight Words

Set up:

2-10 players can play. Each player starts with seven cards. Place the rest of the cards in a draw pile face down. Designate a space for a discard pile next to the draw pile. Take the top card from the draw pile, flip it over and place it in the discard pile to begin the game.

How to play:

1. Each player must try to match the card in the discard pile. Players must match by number, shape, or Action.

2. A player can also play a Wild card at any time, or a Wild Draw 4 card if they have no other cards that they can play.

3. Each time a player plays a card, they must read the sight word on the card out loud.

4. If the player has no matches, that player must draw a card from the draw pile. If that card can be played, the player must play it. If it cannot be played, the player keeps the card. The game then moves to the next player.

5. If you run out of cards in the draw pile before anyone wins the game, take the discard pile, flip it over and shuffle it and then it becomes the new draw pile.

6. When a player has 1 card left, they must yell “UNO!” If another player catches the player with 1 card left not saying “Uno” before the next card is played, the player with 1 card left must draw 2 new cards. If the player is not caught before the next card is played, the player with 1 card left does not have to draw any cards.

7. The first player to discard all of their cards wins the game.
