1, 2, 3! Kindergarten, here we come!

Pre-K students should master the following skills to have a strong mathematical foundation for kindergarten:

  • Counting with 1 to 1 correspondence
  • Counting orally from 1 to 20
  • Identifying numbers 1 to 10, in and out of order
  • Representing a number of objects with a number
  • Recognizing and identifying shapes
  • Sorting based on various attributes, such as shape, color and size
  • Comparing sizes and amounts using vocabulary words such as: smaller, larger, bigger, greater than, less than, few, shorter, longer, taller, shorter, equal
  • Extending simple patterns
  • Creating simple patterns
  • Understanding addition as adding to using story problems
  • Understanding subtraction as taking from using story problems
