1, 2, 3! Kindergarten, here we come!
Pre-K students should master the following skills to have a strong mathematical foundation for kindergarten:
- Counting with 1 to 1 correspondence
- Counting orally from 1 to 20
- Identifying numbers 1 to 10, in and out of order
- Representing a number of objects with a number
- Recognizing and identifying shapes
- Sorting based on various attributes, such as shape, color and size
- Comparing sizes and amounts using vocabulary words such as: smaller, larger, bigger, greater than, less than, few, shorter, longer, taller, shorter, equal
- Extending simple patterns
- Creating simple patterns
- Understanding addition as adding to using story problems
- Understanding subtraction as taking from using story problems
